This week I’ve been reminded of Blackadder Goes Forth, when he says:
“This is a crisis. A large crisis. In fact, if you’ve got a moment; it’s a twelve-storey crisis with a magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24-hour portage, and an enormous sign on the roof, saying ‘This Is a Large Crisis’. A large crisis requires a large plan… Get me two pencils and a pair of underpants.“
It got me thinking about the different ways we handle a crisis. How we feel about what’s going on in the world around us and of course, how this impacts our diet, weight loss and approach to mindfulness.
There’s a lot of change and uncertainty, a lot of mixed messages on social media, a lot of panic-buying. In short, a lot of things we can’t control.
It’s tempting to be lost in a spiral of thoughts about all the things we need to worry about at the moment because panic is infectious. The more we talk to friends and neighbours, the more we see posts on social media of empty shelves, the more talk of rationing; the more we begin to wonder if we should be panicking a little more. We begin to feel that little flutter of fear in our chest whenever someone mentions the new C word…
I’m asking you to use this week to think about what you do have control over. And then, make a plan.
